How to Identify a Dangerous Tree

Palm tree trimming Pretoria (9)

Most trees are not a problem, but certain signs suggest a tree needs a closer look before it becomes a hazard.

Visual Warning Signs

  • Large dead branches, or deadwood scattered through the canopy
  • Cracks, splits or cavities in the trunk
  • Fungus or mushrooms growing at the base, often a sign of root or trunk decay
  • A lean that has become more pronounced over time
  • Roots that have visibly lifted out of the ground
  • Bark that is peeling away in large sections

After a Storm

Even a tree that looked fine before a storm can be compromised afterwards. Check for hairline cracks, loosened roots, or branches that are hanging but not fully broken off, all of which can fail later without warning.

When to Get a Professional Opinion

If you notice any of these signs, it is worth having the tree properly assessed rather than waiting to see what happens. Contact us and we can advise whether the tree needs felling or can be managed with trimming.
